2000 Sunflowers Help To Raise Smiles

Saturday 16th July saw the launch of the Sunshine Smile Appeal to raise funds for a little known Hull charity that provides desperately needed care for children.

Sunshine House in Walker Street, Hull, provides care for children from birth to the age of 18 years who have a clinical nursing need, including those with life-limiting conditions and complex health needs often requiring post-operative, recuperation and palliative care and support for those who are terminally ill.

The appeal, which will run for three months, is being launched by the Hull-based Smile Foundation with help from Colletta and Tyson who plan to kick-start the event with the sale of 2,000 sunflowers representing the children cared for by Sunshine House since it opened. For every sunflower purchased, £2 will be donated to the fund. The appeal fund will also help to pay for a new sensory room and a ‘forget me knot’ room which will be used in end-of-life care.

Organisers hope to raise £50,000 in three months and have already received donations from the Hull 10k team through its junior runs and has had ongoing support from HSBC. The Smile Foundation, renowned for its fundraising for local charities, will also be providing a website and promotional material and a challenge Anneka event, and will be supported by Hull-based Paragon Data Services and The Sewell Group.
